EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Information packets on hurricane preparedness can be picked up at city hall or the police station. Maps of the Gulf of Mexico are available for families to track any potential storms. A Family Hurricane Checklist is essential during this time of year.
SOUTHSIDE PLACE MOSQUITO SPRAYING EFFORTS
In early May, the City of Southside Place started its regular spraying for mosquitoes. Standing water and warm temperatures are the perfect conditions for hatching mosquitoes. Currently, the city is spraying two times a week.
FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL
Please remember that fireworks are illegal in Southside Place.
JULY 4th BIKE PARADE
The Southside Place Bike parade will start in front of City Hall and proceed to the park. Fun activities including food and games at the park will follow.
NEW AUDEN 12" RESIDENTIAL WATER LINE COMPLETED
Construction of a new 12" water line on Auden and University has been completed. This new PVC line replaces a 50+ year old 6" cast iron pipe. The total project cost was $ 470,000. If you are having trouble with your sprinkler system or the new sod on Auden and University, please contact city staff.
SOUTHSIDE PLACE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS
The City of Southside Place would like to thank Shell for their MDA matching funds. The fire department has also applied for a Homeland Security grant for bunker gear, airpacks, and portable radios. A decision is expected by December, 2008.
NEW ABC STREET RESIDENTIAL WATER LINES
New 8" PVC lines are replacing 50+ year old 2" lines on all ABC streets. Crews should be done by November. The total project cost is $ 760,000. If you are having trouble with sprinkler systems after construction, please contact city staff for assistance.
BELLAIRE BOULEVARD CONSTRUCTION REPORT
During the next three months, the contractor will switch traffic from the north to south lanes between Edloe and Auden and begin roadway reconstruction along the Bellaire Blvd. homes. In addition, closure of the south lanes between Auden and Stella Link will occur with pavement and storm sewer installation beginning. New traffic signal light bases have been installed at Auden along with 6' wide sidewalks along the Shell property. Weather permitting, the contractor should begin pouring roadway concrete on the north lanes of Bellaire Boulevard by mid August. If you have any questions about Bellaire Boulevard, please call city staff for informative information.
ARCHITECTS AND TOWN CENTER COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Town Center Committee and Jackson & Ryan Architects are meeting weekly to discuss the building design and layout of the new municipal complex. The new municipal building will contain police, fire, and administrative functions. Construction should begin in early 2009.

2008 PRELIMINARY TAX VALUES
Preliminary tax values for residential and commercial properties in the city total $ 485 Million compared to $ 425 Million last year.
SOUTHSIDE PLACE CLUBHOUSE ACQUISITION
In mid June, the City of Southside Place acquired the Park Association Clubhouse for $ 1.3 Million. Voters approved this transaction in November, 2007.

City staff has issued five building permits for new residential construction in the last twelve months.

Southside Place Sales Tax Receipts for the first six months of 2008 totaled
$ 159,160. In 2007, the total for this period was $ 159,340.
