Merry Mulching To All!

 

The City of Southside Place will be recycling holiday trees for the eighth consecutive year.  Please have your tree at the curb by January 12 for pick-up.  Holiday mulch will be made available to residents after January 14.  Please call city hall if you would like delivery.

 

 

Tax Rate And Bill Mailout

 

Property tax bills for 2009 have been mailed.  The 2009 tax rate is .347833 cents per $ 100 valuation.  In 2008, the tax rate was the same. Tax bills become delinquent in February, 2010.

 

 

PLEASE DO NOT PLACE YOUR SANITATION AT THE CURB UNTIL SUNDAY NIGHT DECEMBER 27.  

 

 

Bellaire Boulevard Reconstruction Almost Complete

 

The $ 7.6 million Bellaire Boulevard roadway reconstruction and bridge project is within 90 days of completion.  The new concrete roadway with drainage improvements, traffic signals, pedestrian lighting, and new bridge design will enhance Southside Place for many years.  During the past decade, Southside Place City Council has secured over $ 8 million in transportation and grant funding from METRO, TXDOT, and Harris County.  Bellaire Boulevard landscaping and lighting in conjunction with TXDOT will begin in April, 2010.

 

Thank you for your continued patience over the past several years as infrastructure improvements have been made throughout the residential and commercial districts.           

 

 

State/Federal Grant Funding Received   

 

In 2009, Southside Place secured over $ 350,000 in grant funding for a variety of city projects including emergency generators, fire department bunker gear, and police department cameras.      

 

 

Residential Speed Limit

 

All residential streets including Edloe and Auden have a posted speed of 25 MPH.  In November, new signs were erected throughout the city.  The speed limit around the park remains 20 MPH.

 

 

PLEASE REMEMBER TO REGISTER YOUR DOG WITH CITY HALL IN JANUARY, 2010 FOR NEW TAGS.  COST IS $ 5.00 

 

 

PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR DOG ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES WHEN WALKING.

Commercial District Report/Quarterly Sales Tax Summary

 

During the last quarter of 2009, sales tax monies increased by $ 16,000 compared to 2008 data.  Please continue to shop within the city limits.  Shoe Cents has recently vacated lease space in the Braes Heights Shopping Center.

 

 

City Hall Grand Opening Celebration

 

The new municipal building is on schedule for completion in mid February, 2010.  Brick sidewalk pavers will soon be installed on Edloe and University in the Town Center District.  A city hall grand opening celebration is being planned.  The police station will also be demolished in February to make room for public parking spaces. 

 

 

Helmets To Be Worn On Bicycles And Skateboards

 

Please wear your helmets when riding your bicycles and skateboards.  

 

 

Shopping Safety Tips

 

1.  Park in a well-lit area.

2.  Always lock all your doors.

3.  Avoid parking near vans or other vehicles with covered cargo areas.

4.  Have your car key in hand, ready to unlock your door.

5.  Place all packages out of sight. 

 

 

Vehicular Parking in Southside Place

 

Please remember that parking is not allowed on Southside Place streets between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM.  Parking facing the wrong way on a city street is dangerous and illegal according to state traffic laws.  In addition, parking is prohibited across sidewalks where children and adults walk or use mobility scooters.  Please be safe and courteous to your fellow neighbors.   

 

 

"No Knock" Solicitor List

 

A "No Knock" Solicitor form is enclosed and can be returned with your water bill payment or police department.

The regular monthly city council meeting has been changed to Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00 PM.
