2010 Census Day Just Around The Corner

Although April 1 is the official Census Day, census questionnaires will be sent to homes in mid-March.  Every household will receive the same short, ten-question survey.  Ten simple questions - ten minutes - will have a real impact on the next 10 years.  Let us "Make Southside Place Count" and ensure citizens receive their fair share of $ 400 billion in federal funds.

 

Please remember to register your pets with city hall for 2010.  Cost is $ 5.00

 

Heavy Trash Collection Scheduled For April 10

On Saturday, April 10, the City of Southside Place will provide heavy trash pick-up for residents in the city.  Household hazardous collection will also take place.  Pick-up begins at 8 A.M.

 

New E-Mail Alerts For Sanitation Collection And Holidays

Beginning in April, residents will begin receiving e-mail alerts about sanitation collection and holiday schedules.  Please remember that sanitation will not be picked up on April 2.  If you have changed or added e-mail accounts, please let us know so we can update our records.

 

Water/Wastewater Rate Increase Takes Effect With April, 2010 Billing

On February 10, 2009, city council approved a five year water/wastewater plan and recommendation report based upon a cost of service and rate design study by Water Resources Management.  Last month, the City of Houston also increased surface water charges for Southside Place and other municipalities as a result of their own rate study.  Southside Place is required to purchase 80% of our annual water from Houston.  All residential, commercial, and industrial customer rates will increase.  Residential water rates will increase from $ 4.69 to $ 4.78 per thousand.  Residential wastewater rates will increase from $ 4.46 to $ 4.48 per thousand.  Winter averaging will be used for wastewater rates.  Commercial water rates will increase from $ 3.87 per to $ 3.95 per thousand.  Commercial wastewater rates will increase from $ 4.65 to $ 4.66 per thousand.        

 

Property Tax Bills Delinquent Notice

Property tax payments were due by January 31st.  Monthly penalty and interest charges will be added to unpaid bills.  "Homestead Exemptions Not Available" are printed on all bills.

 

City Hall Grand Opening Celebration Update

The new municipal building is on schedule for a March 1st completion.  Brick sidewalk pavers have been installed on Edloe and University in the Town Center District.  A city hall grand opening celebration is being planned for the month of April.  The police station will also be demolished in mid March to make room for public parking spaces. 

An e-mail alert and residential flyer will be distributed once the public reception day is finalized.  Public safety operations will commence at the new city hall on Thursday, February 25.  

 

Bellaire Boulevard Bridge And Street Landscaping

The $ 1.3 million Bellaire Boulevard bridge reconstruction project will be completed by March 31.  Bellaire Boulevard landscaping and lighting in conjunction with TXDOT will begin in the summer of 2010.  The new concrete roadway with drainage improvements, traffic signals, and pedestrian lighting will enhance Southside Place for many years.  During the past decade, Southside Place City Council has secured over  $ 8 million in transportation and grant funding from METRO, TXDOT, and Harris County.

 

May 8 Election At City Hall  

The City of Southside Place will be holding an election for Council Position # 2, Council Position #4, and Council Position # 5.  Polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 8.  Early voting will be conducted at city hall from April 26 - May 4.

 

Please contact city hall with residential street light outages.  Most lights can be repaired within a week except those needing more extensive repair. 

  

Vehicular Parking in Southside Place

Please remember that parking is not allowed on Southside Place streets between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM.  Parking facing the wrong way on a city street is dangerous and illegal according to state traffic laws.  In addition, parking is prohibited across sidewalks where children and adults walk or use mobility scooters.  Please be safe and courteous to fellow neighbors by parking vehicles in front of your residential home.  Current parking regulations and proposed changes will be discussed at the March 9 council meeting.
