Shred-It And Heavy Trash Collection Day / October 17
On October 17, the City of Southside Place will conduct Heavy Trash/Shred-It Day for residents. Residents can bring up to 5 banker boxes of personal records to city hall for free shredding between the hours of 9 AM - 12 PM.
Sanitation Bags Delivered To Your Home In October
Please remember to use the black heavy-duty bags for your sanitation purposes instead of garbage cans. Two rolls of black bags will be delivered to your residence by November 10. A charge of $ 60 will be added to your water bill.
$ .347833 Proposed Tax Rate And Budget Adoption News
During the October 13 regular council meeting, the city's 2009 proposed tax rate and FY 2010 budget were reviewed. The city's proposed 2009 tax rate is .347833 per $100 valuation. The Maintenance & Operations (M & O) portion of the tax rate at .223220 is slightly lower from 2008. The new debt rate is proposed at .124613. Debt includes monies for the park clubhouse acquisition, city hall construction, and recent water/sewer infrastructure improvements. The city acquired the clubhouse in June, 2008. City hall construction is expected to conclude in February, 2010. New residential water lines were completed in October, 2008. The overall proposed 2009 tax rate remains lower than Bellaire and West University Place. No large capital projects are proposed this year. Copies of the FY 2009-2010 budget are also available for public review at city hall.
Centerpoint Energy Tree Trimming In Southside Place
Centerpoint Energy has contracted with a tree company to trim limbs away from their power lines in the easement. Limb cutting and trucks can be seen on residential streets at this time.
Bike Patrol On Halloween Night
Officer Jason Armstrong will be patrolling residential streets.
Bellaire Boulevard Construction Report (99% complete)
The $5.8 Million Bellaire Boulevard Roadway project is nearing completion along with being several months ahead of schedule. During the next 30-45 days, the contractor and city will be reviewing the final as-built plans. New traffic signals, pedestrian lights, and paver walkways have been installed at every intersection. Pavers have been installed in the middle of Bellaire at Auden bearing the Southside Place entrance design. Twenty-eight double arm esplanade lights will be installed from Edloe to Moeller's Bakery by mid November. Town Center And City Hall Update
The new municipal building is on schedule for completion in February, 2010. The police station will be demolished in mid January to make room for parking spaces for the public.
Sewer Line Construction Complete on Edloe
The $ 90,000 6" sewer force main project from Garnet to University is complete.
Helmets To Be Worn On Bicycles And Skateboards
Please wear your helmets when riding your bicycles and skateboards.
Bridge Construction Report (58% Complete)
The $ 1.8 Million bridge reconstruction project continues with demolition of the south portion of the bridge in late October. All traffic will be detoured to the north lanes of the bridge the week of October 26. A completion date of February, 2010 is expected.
Recycling Wednesday

· All plastics are being collected curbside.
